Set in a cool forest canopy of wild palms and gnarled fig trees, this flagship lodge blends seamlessly with one of Africa’s most breath-taking landscapes. Behind the lodge, golden-grassed floodplains inhabited by a staggering variety of wildlife stretch into the distance, framed by lush palm islands and the spires of giant termite mounds. A channel of clear, cool waters runs directly in front of the elevated guest suites, offering unrestricted views over the shimmering beauty of the Delta.
Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge guests can awaken to the sound of animals, laugh at the antics of baboons and squirrels over breakfasts and tread in the footsteps of elephants as they walk the ancient paths that bisect the forest. Days are spent exploring a maze of papyrus and exploring the wide floodplains in search of wildlife. Room
Camouflaged under a tumbling canopy of wild palms and gnarled fig leaves, eight thatched cottages emerge in leafy clearings right on the edge of the Delta’s waterways. Blending seamlessly with its surroundings, the tranquil beauty of Sandibe Safari Lodge surprises not only guests but even the occasional wandering animals, startled as rough wooden beams and thatched roofs take shape within the leafy groves. The sounds of Africa lull and soothe travellers, as elephants splash in the quiet waters, baboons chatter and a myriad birds call and twitter in the trees. The eight intimate African-inspired cottages each have an ensuite bathroom, twin hand basin, separate w.c and outdoor shower and dressing area. The cottages are airy with all windows covered in gauze to maximise views of the forest. Each cottage has an elevated viewing deck which is perfect for intimate candlelit dinners. The greens of the river bank peer into spacious guest cottages through large, airy screens. Earthy ochre tones bring the forest floor indoors, while tactile textures, from leather and silk to rough hewn wood, celebrate the natural beauty of the setting. Gaze out onto the banks of the Santantadibe River from under the canopy of your king size bed or spend a restful hour watching the quiet play of light on water from your private raised deck. At one with the forest, enjoy the warm luxury of the sun skipping across your skin in the large outdoor shower.
African-inspired Cottages
The eight, sensitively designed cottages are set under shady trees. Spacious and tastefully decorated with an en suite bathroom, each cottage boasts a private game-viewing deck overlooking the Santandibe River. The outdoor shower, with its unusual stargazing perspective, is as refreshing as it is charming. Innovative screen walls open up to reveal superb views of the Okavango Delta’s landscape. The cottages are characterised by comfort, serenity and thoughtful touches.
Dining
Sandibe Lodge serves an alfresco banquet of Pan-African cuisine in a communal dining area, perfectly positioned under a canopy of trees. Candlelit dinners may also be served in the shelter of the boma. On request, the staff delight in arranging romantic dinners for two, either on your private viewing deck, or away from the Lodge for a uniquely African bush dining experience. Dining area is an elongated multi-level structure, open-faced, and covered by a large curved roof. Designed to mimic the scales of a pangolin, the roof is made up of thousands of little tiles of yellow cedarwood (which have yet to fade and blend into the natural environment), carefully fitted together like a body of armour. The food at Sandibe has always been excellent – well presented, varied and really tasty.
